Choosing an SEO platform is one of the most consequential tool decisions a small business makes — get it wrong and you’re paying $100+ a month for data you don’t know how to use. I built MarketersChoice.com’s entire SEO strategy from the ground up, which means I’ve had to evaluate every major platform on what it actually delivers, not what the marketing page promises. Moz has been around since 2004 and invented Domain Authority — but does that legacy still translate into a tool worth paying for in 2026? Here’s my Moz review 2026 verdict.

Moz Review 2026 — Quick Verdict

Moz Pro is a focused, well-built SEO platform that does the fundamentals exceptionally well — keyword research, rank tracking, site auditing, and backlink analysis anchored by the industry’s most recognized Domain Authority metric. It is not the most feature-rich platform available and it does not try to be. For SEO specialists, local businesses, and agencies where Domain Authority is the standard currency of link quality conversations, Moz Pro is a legitimate professional choice at a competitive price point.

What Is Moz?

Moz is a dedicated SEO software company founded in Seattle in 2004 by Rand Fishkin and Gillian Muessig — originally as a consulting firm called SEOmoz before pivoting to software in 2008. It is best known for creating Domain Authority, the metric that became the industry standard for measuring website credibility and link quality.

As this Moz review 2026 covers in detail, Moz hosts one of the largest SEO communities in the world through the Moz Blog and Whiteboard Friday video series — a resource library that has educated a generation of SEO professionals. That community focus has always been central to Moz’s identity alongside its tools.

Moz Review 2026 — Pricing

Moz Pro offers four plans with significant savings on annual billing. A 7-day free trial is available on all plans — credit card required.

PlanMonthly PriceAnnual PriceKeywords TrackedCampaigns
Starter$49/month$39/month501
Standard$99/month$79/month3003
Medium$179/month$143/month1,50010
Large$299/month$239/month3,00025

Which plan should you choose? The Starter plan at $39/month is genuinely limited — 50 tracked keywords and 1 campaign is not enough for serious SEO work. Standard at $79/month is the realistic entry point for most users. Medium at $143/month is where Moz becomes a genuine professional tool for agencies and growing businesses.

The 7-day free trial gives you enough time to run a full site audit, explore keyword research and evaluate whether the platform fits your workflow before committing. Credit card required.

Moz Review 2026 — Key Features

Domain Authority

This is Moz’s most important contribution to the SEO industry and the reason many professionals choose it over competitors. Domain Authority is a score from 1-100 that predicts how well a website will rank in search results based on its backlink profile. It was created by Moz in 2004 and has become the industry standard metric for evaluating link quality — when clients, publishers, and partners ask about DA they mean Moz’s number specifically.

No other platform has an equivalent metric with the same industry recognition. Semrush has its own Authority Score and Ahrefs has Domain Rating — but neither carries the same universal recognition as Moz’s DA in client conversations and link building outreach.

Keyword Explorer

Moz’s keyword research tool covers search volume, keyword difficulty, organic click-through rate data, and keyword suggestions. The interface is clean and straightforward — easier for beginners than Semrush’s Keyword Magic Tool but with a smaller database and less granular data at equivalent price points.

The Priority Score is a useful Moz-specific feature — it combines search volume, difficulty, and your site’s current ranking to give each keyword a combined score showing which opportunities are most worth pursuing first. A practical shortcut for beginners who find keyword prioritization overwhelming.

Link Explorer

Moz’s backlink analysis tool powered by the same index that produces Domain Authority scores. You can analyze any site’s complete backlink profile, track new and lost links, identify potentially toxic links, and find link building opportunities.

The Link Explorer database is smaller than Ahrefs and updates less frequently — Ahrefs’ near real-time backlink updates are a genuine advantage for agencies monitoring client profiles actively. For most small business users the difference in update frequency is not material to daily work.

Rank Tracker

Track keyword rankings across desktop and mobile with historical trend data and location-based tracking. Rank tracking updates are weekly on Starter and Standard plans — daily updates require Medium or Large. This is a meaningful limitation compared to Semrush which provides daily updates across all plans.

Site Crawl

Moz’s site audit tool crawls your website and identifies technical SEO issues — broken links, missing meta tags, duplicate content, redirect chains, and page speed issues. The interface is clean and issue prioritization is clear. Less comprehensive than Semrush’s site audit in terms of the number of issues detected but covers the core technical SEO fundamentals that most sites need.

Moz Local

A separate product from Moz Pro specifically designed for local SEO — managing business listings, citations, and reviews across directories. For local businesses and agencies managing local SEO campaigns Moz Local is a strong complementary product that integrates naturally with Moz Pro’s DA-based link analysis.

Moz Academy and Community

One of Moz’s most underrated assets. The Moz Blog, Whiteboard Friday video series, and Moz Academy courses are free educational resources that have built genuine expertise in the SEO community for two decades. For beginners the learning resources are exceptional — arguably the best free SEO education available anywhere.

What We Like About Moz

Domain Authority — unmatched industry recognition — No other platform’s link quality metric is as universally recognized. If DA matters to your clients or your outreach strategy Moz is the only platform that gives you the real number.

7-day free trial — requires a credit card but gives you full access to evaluate the platform properly before committing.

Clean, beginner-friendly interface — Less overwhelming than Semrush. Logical navigation and clear data presentation make it accessible to users who are not full-time SEO specialists.

Competitive entry pricing — At $39/month annual for Starter and $79/month for Standard, Moz is significantly more affordable than Semrush at entry level. For small businesses doing basic SEO work the price difference is meaningful.

Moz Academy and community — Free educational resources that are genuinely among the best available for anyone learning SEO. A meaningful value-add beyond the tools themselves.

What We Don’t Like About Moz

Weekly rank tracking on lower plans — Daily updates only on Medium and Large plans. For active campaigns where rankings move quickly weekly data is a real limitation.

Smaller keyword database — Moz’s keyword database is smaller than Semrush and Ahrefs. For competitive keyword research in broad niches this shows in the depth of keyword suggestions available.

No PPC research tools — If paid search is part of your strategy Moz requires a separate tool. Semrush covers PPC at every plan level.

Starter plan is too limited — 50 tracked keywords and 1 campaign is not enough for serious SEO work. The realistic entry price for meaningful use is the Standard plan at $79/month not the advertised $39/month.

Less comprehensive site audit — Semrush’s site audit detects significantly more technical issues. For complex sites with deep technical SEO problems Moz’s audit may miss issues that matter.

Moz vs Semrush — Which Should You Choose?

For the full head-to-head see our Semrush vs Moz 2026 comparison. The short version:

Choose Moz if: Domain Authority is central to your work, you want a cleaner less overwhelming interface, you do local SEO, or you want a free trial to evaluate properly before committing.

Choose Semrush if: You need PPC research, content marketing tools, daily rank tracking on entry plans, or a larger keyword database. Read our full Semrush review for the complete picture.

Our Moz Review 2026 Verdict

This Moz review 2026 concludes that Moz Pro is a legitimate professional SEO tool that earns its place in the market — particularly for anyone where Domain Authority is a daily currency in client conversations, link building outreach, or local SEO campaigns. The 7-day free trial requires a credit card but gives you full access to evaluate the platform properly before committing.

The limitations are real — weekly rank tracking on lower plans, a smaller keyword database than Semrush, and no PPC research tools. For marketers who need the full stack Semrush delivers more for comparable money. But for the specific use cases where Moz shines — DA-focused link building, local SEO, and beginner-friendly SEO work — it is a well-built tool from a company with two decades of genuine expertise in the space.
